Our Forum has now been up a few weeks here, and I am wondering whether or not this board is helping YOU with your CERT activities? We are open to suggestions on how to improve it to keep you coming back regularly, so please let us know your ideas about what would bring YOU back here at least once a week.
Scott Britt suggested in another thread perhaps having get-togethers AFTER our CERT training has completed, in order to stay current and active and find our own way in the CERT community, by reinforcing our training with talks and exercises, and by sharing with each other the things we find along the way. To kick this off, we need a DATE and a PLACE and someone willing to be an organizer to help contact people. Any takers??
I don't know how many of you read the slogans on the walls of the Rescue Squad building last week, but you could tell they are a SERVICE organization, committed to helping the community and city and county, and wherever else they are called on to assist as well. That is what CERT should also be, but on an individual basis, with each of us helping as we can when we are called on or when we deem it necessary to use our training to help others.
There are so many directions our CERT training can help us branch out in, but it is up to each of us to decide WHERE we want to fit into the overall emergency preparedness picture. If you want to continue your training, there will be many opportunities to do so in the coming months, and we will try to post those on here so check back often. And if YOU know of any opportunities, let us know so we can share with everyone here.
Sometimes we are not sure exactly how to proceed, and if you have that issue, just remember there are many on here with many skills that can help you decide what to do. Things like making response kits, figuring out how your house utilities are arranged, checking to make sure you don't have any fire hazards lurking in your own or your kid's bedrooms, making a first aid kit, organizing your important documents so they will be backed up in case of fire or other disaster, or any number of other activities that SHOULD be important enough to spend some time on.
The main thing to remember is that help is out there, if you just ask for it. Also, remember that YOUR input is useful to others, so share when you can.
See you this Thursday!
