I am looking for input on what people have found regarding First Aid Kits for CERT. I found one that looks like it has a pretty good selection of items, but would most of these items really ever be used? The one I am referring to is at: www.allthingsfirstaid.com/cert-first-aid-kit-team-member.aspx. Somehow I get the feeling that if we were in a big disaster, probably the one thing we REALLY needed wouldn't be there! So considering that, what do you recommend as minimums for a CERT-friendly First Aid Kit that we can create from scratch? I would think that supplies for treating burns, fractures, abrasions, cuts and bleeding would be definite musts. Plus PPE (personal protection equipment) for sure. What else?

Hi! Nice kit, I had not seen that! For me, I have been steering away from the ready-made kits as well. If it something that requires a finger Band-Aid, then in a mass casualty situation they are "green" and they can just make do. Also, I already have fairly comprehensive first aid kits everywhere (cars, home, work, exercise bag, etc.) so for this one I mostly focused on several people having major injuries. Here is what I have in mine: 1 Combat Tourniquet * 3 Israeli Bandages 1 Sponge Quick Clot * 6 Triangle Bandages 5 Rolls 4"x2.5yd Gauze 2 Emergency blankets 1 Multi-purpose scissors * = more would be better, but they are expensive! Will be adding more later. I also have a small amount of "small injury" supplies; some Band-Aids, tube of Neosporin, Pepto, Tylenol, tweezers, heat pack. Probably should have a few more blankets; cheap, small, and treatment for shock. Also there are "Sam Splints" that seem popular, and a $16 folding stretcher (below). Figured I would wait till the second medical class to make a decision on those, since it will deal with transporting victims. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004ESX556/ref=ox_sc_sfl_image_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A2ARKDQYPSRASS
