Cobb County's EMA (in Georgia) has posted a great list of the FEMA Online classes that give CERT members additional training. As pointed out in our last CERT meeting by Colin, it is recommended for those who want to learn more about the Incident Command system and other National Initiatives such as NIMS and NRF, to take the following classes: IS-100b, IS-700a and IS-800b. Of course, you can choose those of interest to your own needs as well. Additional FEMA Online Classes
To sign up for these classes requires a FEMA Student Identification Number (they quit using SSN due to identity theft issues). More information on this process is here: Info about FEMA Student ID Numbers and to sign up go here: Apply for FEMA Student ID Number

Ok, finished IS-100b (Incident Command System), IS-700a (National Incident Management System) this past weekend and am now working on IS-800b (National Response Framework). I might take IS-200 as well since our local METERS (amateur radio) group recommends that one. Then on to probably First Aid / CPR training.
While everyone doesn't have to take these courses, it is a good idea to keep yourself involved in related things so that you don't forget what you've been taught. Hopefully we will figure out some training ideas for all of us to do, either as a group or individually. Open for suggestions....

Finished IS-800b (National Response Framework) and continued on to IS-200b (ICS for Single Resources and Initial Action Incident) and finished that one. These four courses (IS-100b, IS-200b, IS-700a, IS-800b) are the recommended ones that METERS wants its members to have. These also qualify you for other training classes such as IS-300 (Intermediate ICS for Expanding Incidents) and IS-400 (Advanced ICS for Command and General Staff), which are only given in a classroom session (not online) and the AUXCOMM (Auxiliary Communications Workshop) training courses only given in classrooms from time to time. These courses give the individual a great overview and better understanding of how disasters are managed at all levels, from local to nationwide. If there is a particular area that interests you, there is probably a specific FEMA course that addresses that area, so please check out what's available from the Emergency Management Institute - Independent Study Program
